It seems that different methods are working on different models. I'm not sure what works for who but I was able to get both my Smart Gesture and Fliplock to resume working by using the following method.
First, I went to Control Panel and uninstalled Asus Smart Gesture, Asus Fliplock and ATK Package drivers. This then required a restart of the computer.
After the restart, I went and found the latest version of the three drivers mentioned above at: http://support.asus.com/ (Note: The latest driver version could still be under Windows 8.1 as Fliplock was for me). After installing these three drivers, another restart is required.
ASUS Touchpad Drivers Download. ASUS Drivers Keyboard Drivers Mouse Drivers. Download the latest ASUS Touchpad driver for your computer's operating system. All downloads available on this website have been scanned by the latest anti-virus software and are guaranteed to be virus and malware-free. Windows should now proceed to download and install the Asus Touchpad driver. Alternative: If Windows fails to download the Asus driver completely or if it downloads the wrong touchpad driver again, you will need to uninstall the wrong one again and download the Asus Touchpad driver manually from their website by following the instructions below.
Finally, after the second restart, I opened Control Panel once again. For each of the three drivers, I selected them and clicked repair. After I did that, I restarted my computer just to be safe and everything was working!
Hopefully this method works for you, if not I suggest continuing to go through forums and try the safe looking solutions until you find one, Asus/Microsoft gives us a solution, or you just give up!
Good luck!

About TouchPad Drivers:
Windows operating systems automatically apply a generic driver that allows users to benefit from basic touch functions; however, advanced features will not be available until the proper files are installed.
When enabled by required software, the touchpad component is recognized by computers and all developed features are made accessible.
Even though touchpoint technology is mostly associated with notebooks or laptops, other systems can also benefit from it with the help of an external wireless or wired TouchPad device.
If you wish to update to this version, know that it can enhance overall performance and stability, add different fixes for various touch problems, improve existing gestures, or even include support for new ones.
As for the installation procedure, first make sure that all system characteristics are supported and only then save and install the downloadable package. Even if other OSes might be compatible as well, we do not recommend applying any software on platforms other than the specified ones.
With this in mind, follow all aforementioned steps and apply the present release. Should you choose not to update right now, check back with our website again to stay up to speed with latest releases.

Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver.
Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
